Skate Sesh Ending Early

When you see this face, it is time to end the session immediately and head to your local Jack In The Box - or what have you. This face symbolizes three main things. 1) Late for something important 2) Gotta take a fat dump 3) Neeeeed Fooooood.

I've made this face a million times before.
This session was epic though. Thanks Austin for the fotos.

Coachella Sucks

I feel like Coachella keeps getting worse... I mean come on. Jack Johnson? Ouch. Coachella reached their peak a couple years ago. Let's face it, the best place to see bands these days, is at record store - in house - shows, and at Spaceland or the Echo for free on monday nights. Jack Johnson headlines Coachella... Never thought I'd see the day. Wow.

As a side note, I do appreciate some of the smaller names on the bill, but for a headliner, you want to see a band up there that actually makes you stoked to go. You don't want to go all the way down to the desert and see a bunch of cool bands all to be ended by a piece of crap band do you? That would be like the last Coachella I went to where Tool headlined. I left early with Beto, but ouch..... Tool. Ok, I've said enough.

The bands I'm actually stoked on: Tegan & Sara, Spank Rock (yeah, again), Minus the Bear, Vampire Weekend, M.I.A., Hot Chip, VHS or Beta, Chromeo, Jusice, Metric, The Streets (yeah, I do like the streets), Cool Kids, Shout Out Louds (gotta give my love yo), Diplo, and The Raconteurs.

Diesel / Mean + Footage

Here's a video/blurb by Sterling Bartlett and yours truly.

Video - Photo Set

Murph's Territory + Fotos

Murph has a problem with marking his territory. Ever since he learned how to lift his leg not two months ago, he's been going pee-crazy. Just takes a piss on anything that looks, or smells like NOT his piss. I went on a walk, and snapped a foto every time he took a piss, and even missed a couple because of how fast he is, but got these here. Enjoy - I know Murph did.

Murphy loves treats...

...but hates being a treat.

Gourmet - NFN

Sterling just educated me on a couple of shoes that I really really want. The sad part is being a semi-student, and having no money. Gourmet is releasing some of the old Jordan 13, and 7 silhouettes with a re-designed wino exterior with super limited branding, and very classy colorways. Mmmmmm. Tasty.

Sweet iPhone

If you didn't know, this is what my iPhone looks like.

I was at a movie theater, when I dropped it trying to take a picture of some retarded bumper sticker. That pissed me off. Anyway, Jeremy has been having phone troubles too, because his phone sucks and I told him to get one of the NEW iPhones, like the one I have, because it's so much better than his razor. So he got a new iPhone just like me!!!

Shark-diel Week

For those of you who frequent the Epicly Later'd blog, you'll be pleased to know that coming up are the much anticipated John Cardiel episodes. This graphic kills me. Cardiel - post head injury - is eating Ryan Sheckler - skateboarding playboy/clownfag. Can't wait.

Security + Footage

What does "security" mean? It's not security for people, so much as security for the business. Jeremy and I went to the Staples Center downtown yesterday to get some footage. This security guard came to kick us out, and he was hilarious. He was more interested in my camera than the fact that Jeremy was ripalizing. Trying to skate during a Garth Brooks concert is one of the most annoying/brutally retarded things ever. Bro's and ho's, in cowboy hats yelling and "woooooooooo"-ing. Wow.

Every time you go out to skate, you do the same song and dance.
"You can't skate here."
"Oh really?"
"Yeah there are signs everywhere."
"Oh, I didn't see any signs."
"There's one right there."
"Oh, ok, we'll leave."

This security guard didn't go that route, he utilized the bro-down high road. "Hey bro's it's cool with me."  Gotta appreciate that.

Reebok Pumps

You may remember stepping on the playground/courts and seeing kids getting ready to play - pumpin fat tongues. The skate-fashion version of this was stuffing tongues from older shoes underneath the tongue of your shoes. "Dope 'em out" - AKA the Geoff Clough. I just did a photo shoot of the new Reebok pumps for Mean Mag. Check 'em.

Thanks to Sterling for the hook up.

Rambo is Back + Fotos

As you may know, the new Rambo came out today. They have been marketing the movie with a very "street" style stencil ad. Everywhere I go, I see these posters. This is what the original Rambo Stencil looked like. Lately, I have been noticing some of the Rambo posters around town have been tagged on. Some people went around at night and painted peace signs on the hand next to Rambo, which was what I think to be a very creative way to mess with advertising. But in the past two days, as the release date came closer, I noticed that more and more of the Rambo posters have been messed with. Check it out:

New PBF

There's a new PBF comic you should check out. He updates them weekly most of the time. I'll keep you posted.

Orange 20 + Ride On

I'm sure you've seen these pieces in Silver Lake and around town. Chickens on bicycles riding around the city. The artist lives here in LA, and I just found out, is obviously into fixed gear stuff -- and vegan stuff. I think it's a growing combo these days to be both at least vegetarian and a bicycle enthusiast. The art portrays chickens having the time of their lives on their bicycles riding on "forever" instead of being eaten I guess...

Anyway, I was at the 20 getting myself a 15mm wrench, when I saw it. A top bar cushion hand painted with the same chickens on bikes. On my way home, I must have seen 50 chickens by the same guy. The "Ride On" art is concentrated around areas that fixie groups hang around. For instance, you won't see the chickens riding down Hoover, but you will see them right off Sunset or Heliotrope. I like the color schemes of some of the art, but I think the style is kinda played out. The Kid Robots of our generation are taking over fine art. That's why I admire those paintings under the bridge by the echoplex. Giant faces in detail. And I love that giant moto-cop on the freeway saying "Slow Down." It's a tragedy, but some retard spray painted over that with a super soaker. Anyway, I do like the art because it's "cute" and it is a chicken on a bike. I like that. So here are some more chickens on bikes.

The one is still an egg.

Mad Murph

This is no joke, he rides around the neighborhood taunting children and stealing kittens from their mother's milk. He comes home late at night with bullet wounds, and when I ask what happened he tells me not to worry about it. I don't know for sure, but I think I owe him money -- which scares me.

Joker Found Dead

Heath Ledger was found dead just about 15 minutes ago in New York. I guess pills were involved. A man in a black suit and cape was seen exiting the window. Here's the full story. Or this one.

Austin Meets LA

Austin and I rode our bikes down to Seven Grand -- I had left my credit card at the bar the night before with my tab open.  Of course because the tab was still open, I ended up leaving a hefty tip against my will.  Anyway, Austin snagged these fotos in Echo Park near my house.

Ghetto Vons

Smashed Lemon

Siiiiiiiick Son!

Wall Ride + Sequence

When Austin was up here, all he did was shoot with his camera. And me being the only person around, he took most of his pictures of me. That's just to say that now I have over a thousand fotos of myself, and posting blogs for the next little while may begin to seem rather self-gratifying, and that's fine. I'm really just showing off my brother's keen eye for taking a sweet picture, which may lead to a lack of intellectual content.

All that said, here's more shots by Mr. Curtis, of Mr. Curtis -- that's "the Curtis way"

Motley Bird + Fotos

I was hired by Motley Bird to shoot some product fotos for their new promotional packets. They came out pretty good. Austin's Macro lens works wonders for this kind of photography. It's hard to get the light reflections on the bottle just right. I'm still messing around with them, but here's a sample of the shots we got. Enjoy. -- I know I am enjoying having a fridge full of them. Special thanks to Austin for his help and Brooke for the gig. Note: These aren't done yet - this is work in progress.

Late Night Gems + Fotos

Austin was in LA for the past three days, and I think we took more photos than we had planned/ever taken before. Skating, product, and random night life were the subjects. For foto nerds out there, Austin brought the Mark 1DS with a 100mm Macro, a 13mm fisheye, and an EF telephoto (100mm-250mm I think). I shoot a 20D with an 18mm-55mm lens. It was a blast shooting something other than a piece of crap stock lens. I took the long lens out in echo park on saturday night and ran into Colin and Cameron. That was sweet. I guess there was a Cool Kids show at the Echoplex. This one of the guy and girl trying to start their little moped is my favorite. Click on it for a larger view - she was pissed. Anyway, here are some of the gems from that night. Enjoy.

Jeremy Is Gone + Footage

So Jeremy went home the other day. Our super good friend, Ashley, was good enough to drive him to the airport, and I rode along. He's been gone for a couple days now, and already I'm happier. Haha.. I'm just masking my feelings of pain and frustration from his disappearance. Check out what I grabbed on his way out. If you pay close attention, you will see that Jeremy doesn't really know what airline, or what his ticket information is. He has to call his mom super late to get the info from her. Wow, it must be AWESOME to be a mom.

Kenny Helps Hack

Hey, all you people out there with the iPhone who want free ringtones, I just talked to Kenny, my buddy from Santa Barbara. He is a computer nerd like most of us mac heads. Anyway, iPhone just updated the software so that you can't use iToner anymore. But he figured out a way around it. I haven't done it yet cause I haven't had the time. But anyway, if you don't know what iToner is, check it out. Free ringtones for your iPhone.

If you don't update, then you don't relate.

Jeremy the Filmer + Footage

Jeremy and I have had the extreme pleasure of borrowing an amazing friend's DVX100. (THANK YOU!).  Jeremy has been doing some filming, and I wanted to share it.  Anyway, if you thought Conny Hall was good, chizneck thisneck out....neck.

Cultural Fixation

The other night, Jeremy took off to go to a movie and I was at home and though I'd like to see a movie too. It's been a while since I had gone to see a movie by myself. Actually, to be honest, besides when I worked at a movie theater, the last movie I saw by myself was Austin Powers. The first one. So I rode over to the Los Feliz theater and saw Juno. Michael Cera kills it.

Anyway, I'm riding home, and pumping hard up a steep hill. I'm making this hill my bitch when I see about fifteen guys on fixies fly down the hill across the street. They hollered and whistled "beeeeoooowuuuup." That, in itself, was worth getting out of the house.

Now, if I had been say, on a skateboard, that never would have happened. If you're skating, and you see a group of skaters cruise down across the street, the first instinct is hostility. I can't explain it, but it's like this one-up-menship that puts skaters into a competitive mode instead of a communal mode. This is true in every case until respect has been earned. A skater has to prove himself constantly and consistently to be "beeooowupped" at all. And in a few days, when the memory of that sick switch-flip over the gap fades away, that respect must be re-earned. This is, of course, unless you are like Guy Mariano or something...

I can understand why the fixie community is so supportive. I mean, the guys on the street have to compete with cars, busses (especially), and pedestrians, with no breaks or way to shift into an easier gear. There is so much going against these guys to begin with, that to be against one another would be like going against yourself - suicide.

It's so easy to become a skater these days that it just isn't enough to be dipped in Altamont gear with swanky LE Lakai's, and a dope sideways cap. I remember back in the day, all you needed to have was a pair of Emerica MJ's and scratch marks on your board, and you were set. Legendary status. I dressed like Chad Muska for years before I realized that it didn't make me any better than my friends.

This isn't all to say that there aren't factions occuring within the fixie world. The racing, freestyle, and messengers all compete in some form - but when it comes down to it, there is still some unspoken bond that they have that skating has somewhat lost. So all you skater/haters out there learn something from people like the Church crew, and the S.A.C. crew, and say "what up" to that twelve-year-old trying to ollie up a curb. Let them know that they are doing God's work. FTP for life.
~

Superhumanoids

I am so amped on this right now.  I was lucky enough to stumble upon some of the most awesome and creative people while at school last year.  I love my friends.  Three amazing songs reminiscent of the new Radiohead (minus the aggro drum'n'bass fills), and the new stuff by Jimmy Tamborello -- are available for download, so go get 'em.  I am loving this right now.

Three 6 mafia said it best, "I ain't goin' talk yo head off, I'ma drop these hits on you, play dem classics."

I Scream Man + Footage

This frickin jerk with his damn ice cream truck. During the school year, this guy parks right outside my house and plays his frickin song super loud. I've been trying not to be passive-aggressive lately as a resolution, so I went out and asked him to leave. He parks down the street half a block now to appease me. This is no good. I can still hear it. When I get close to his converted Astro-Van "ice cream truck" he turns off his "entertainer" music. It attracts kids around here like Will Smith attracts "dark seekers" and "fans." Uughh. Anyway, this frickin guy pisses me off, so now whenever he comes to my street, I bring my camera to his van and freak him out a little. This guy better pray I don't find out where he lives. Two words: Bull Horn.

Stance of a Lifetime

So I'm flipping through the latest and greatest in the new Flaunt, and there she is.  The most recognizable stance to date.  The Annie stance.  I ran to the fridge to find the evidence on a polaroid buried under a bunch of Jeremy's "mullet collection" magnets.  Thought I'd share what I found.

But while we're on the subject of stance, I thought we'd discuss the matter.  I've always thought it a very important trait.  How one holds him/herself in the context of life varies from situation to situation.   I used to watch people take a piss at the urinal when I was a kid to see how people stand.  Sounds weird now, but next time you're greeting the wall-john, take a look around.  It's eerie.  Some men hold the wall (usually for drunk assistance), for some dudes, hands on hips will work.  The cultural awareness of bacteria has definitely effected the placement of hands these days, but still, every once in a while, you get this creepy old guy who comes in the men's room and doesn't give a crap (well, does - later, but, well, you know.)  I saw one guy knock on the urinal to check it's sturdiness.  I think he was well-pleased.

And while we're on the subject of the quiet encounter of taking a piss, I have a quite relevant story.  I was taking a piss at USC campus at almost 11 PM.  It was dark and quiet and I had just picture-locked a film I was working on when an older man came up and decided against the loneliness of the stall, and took a piss beside me.  I don't ever look left or right in such a situation, I simply try to focus on keeping the sound of my stream constant to avoid the ever-embarrassing stage fright scenario.  Anyway, I can feel this guy staring at me - he must be 10 inches from my face.  So I have no choice but to protect my territory and look back toward him.  When who do I see?  Mr. Fava Beans himself; Anthony Hopkins.  I went home and watched Manhunter.

Anyway, I get off topic easily.  Here are the photos I found.  If you've ever met her, you'll know how funny this is.  You can catch her standing like this only if you have a keen eye for it.

Hahahaahah.... oh, sorry.

Austin Is Coming

Beware/Hide your kids:  Austin is coming to L.A.  In other words, to quote Nic Hartcourt, "yall don't know noffing bout vis."

RICKS - Behind the Grind

                           RICKS
Ricks -- Skate, write, destroy, create, define - on a daily basis. These days, simply riding a skateboard is not enough - Ricks + S.A.C. are creating art and good energy on the scene and world of skateboarding, plus offering kids a family under Skate All Cities.

The collaboration between the arts and skateboarding has always been on the rise, and until recent years, hasn't been truly treated as valid. I guess you could say that the same goes for graffiti writing. It is mostly seen as menacing, and detrimental to society - not exactly "art". I have to admit, when I read "crack baby" tagged on my sidewalk and gate this morning, I wasn't thinking, "Wow, I should frame this." It was more like, "Where's that idiot, so I can kick his ass." But there's a huge difference between shitty tagging like that, and the art these guys are creating. S.A.C. has been around for years now, recruiting several very talented skaters and putting out tons of boards for the team.

It seems that every time I see him, Ricks is always flipping me off. That's because I'm always trying to take his photo. He's never been about hating on people as far as I know him, and knows the struggles of working the 8-5 grind. But somehow, this guy makes time to skate, and make sick art for S.A.C. Collaboration is number one - bringing each other up, and combining the eclectic worlds of skateboarding and graffiti into one dominating force.

The boards are in high demand, and therefore, sold out at the moment.  Ricks is always selling them for near at-cost price.  Im sure the guy is in the hole by now, with people always looking for the "bro" hookup.  In other words, they want to be a part of it, without paying up.

Happy birthday Benter!

Everyone in this photo is Asian -- They even adopted Bento into the RBP.

At Sterling's art show -- AGGRO.

Getting Beto to drink shots is impossible unless your name is Ricks.

Even I get BGP's every once in a while. Hah.

Check out all the sick vids up on youtube now, or you can contact S.A.C.

More on this guy and the vision behind S.A.C. coming soon...

Night Walk + Fotos

It was a warm night last Saturday, and before Sterling, Jeremy, and I went our separate ways for the evening, we hung out at the house and took a couple fotos before Sterling and I made our way out for a midnight stroll - at which time it became what we call "freezing cold" as usual.

Trying out the new, small, girly, white, circa-1970's-pimp, leather jacket.

"Go-dreeee-las?!"

Sterling and I went to the local liquor store to get some delicious delectables. We grabbed a few snaps on the way.

Shredding the gnar down Lake Shore. Never scared of going too fast - once clocked him at over 30 mph easily from my car knowing I'd seen him go faster nights before.

Catching some reflections here and there - he shortly thereafter phoned home.

This guy had an old-ass pair of Etnies on with no laces --
"What kind of shoes are those?" "Just bum shoes. What's in the case?"

CVS -- My landlord works here - figure that one out.

Crap - missed call from ******.

Hero shot.

Somehow the best skate shoe?

Boodaly-yay-yay-yo...

"You mean to tell me that you don't sell individual glasses of carrot juice?" --
"Sir, I wouldn't have even parked here.."

I've seen this guy over a million times. He crosses the street every time the light is green obsessively.

Skate Daze + Footage

These days it's not so rare to take the day and go downtown or wherever to film tricks. It's been good lately, and having a camera has proven to be a huge motivating factor in getting tricks on film. Today Jeremy, Beto, Adriano, Ryan, Ricks, and his crew and I went and skated up a homemade spot in Temple City. (Where the heck was mohawk/motorcycle Dave?) Two ledges with stressed angle-irons about to puncture you on every trick. Beto didn't seem to mind - at all. Here are the first and second times he did the line. So sick, he makes my filming look good. Haha!

Jeremy Cannon is sick. I've been trying to put together a small part for myself and Sterling, because I think it's important to document the things you love, even if you suck at them compared to the pros. Whatever. Along the way, I picked up this footage of Jeremy. Enjoy.

More fotos from today (thanks Beto).

Nuñez?

This is probably my favorite comic ever. Grammar is funny, and so is someone dying from eating too much cake.

If you've read the older blogs I have up, then you'll know how much I love the work of Nicholas Gurewitch and his weekly comic strip. He's known as one of the leaders in online comic strips, and had had tons of reviews about his humorous drawings. I've always wanted to have one of his comics printed and framed on my wall because it is such good humor that I wanted to be able to share it with people who come over without having to direct them to the website. So, I found a use for a broken Levi's sign that David Lauda and myself found in the garbage years ago. It is a neon sign that has a plastic cover over it that says Levi's. I had fixed it when I found it, and until recently, hung it on my wall. Murphy took care of that by knocking over a mirror which broke the light. I was about to throw away the neon light when I got an idea. Paint one of my favorite comics on the plastic, and make a light out of it. This was a weird project because since I was painting on plexiglas, I painted it backwards on the other side of the plastic, so that it is still shiny from the front.

Here's what it looks like from the front:

This is the light fixture I took out of the Levi's sign.

This is what the painted side looks like.

One more coat of paint, and the light fixture is mounted back onto the plexiglas (super ghetto).

And finally, with the light mounted to the back, the light goes through the paint, to illuminate it from behind.

It's not completely finished - I still have to put some sort of frame on the edges to conceal the exposed neon filament, but you get the idea.

Jeremy has been painting a ton too, which is weird considering that neither of us are really into painting. Here are some of his recent paintings:

Nike iD - The "Perfect" Dunk

For those kids who love customized shoes and colorways, the vans, and nike online stores have introduced (a while back now) customization of some of their most classic shoes. I couldn't resist. The Nike store even lets you put up to twelve letters (they don't allow swearing of course) on the side of the shoe to add to the custom look and to give a feeling of creativity not inherent in changing colors of swooshes.

Keep in mind, I would probably never buy these - I think there are plenty of great colorways out there that aren't $110 + shipping. I just thought I hadn't lived until I put "WYONE" on the side of a sick shoe. Big ups to all the BG's at bar 107 - especially Pankake. I bet if he saw these, he would flip (no pun intended).

Anyway, after I finished making this shoe, I was frustrated with the lack of choices when it came to the "custom" features. So I looked online, and saw that my perfect custom shoe already exists. It had all the very intricate details that I would have loved to put on my custom Dunk, if they had been available. The Nike SB Harbor - swaying so far toward "custom" that they have a fuzzy collar and tartan siding. What was I thinking? I could make a better shoe than that? Here's the dunk.

And here's the aforementioned Harbor - teaching me that I don't actually need Nike iD afterall.

BGGC Signature Series

Usually, when I've had a bit too much to drink, I grab my camera and take retarded photos. In the morning, I have a full CF card, and a headache. Scrolling through the photos is sort of like looking back into your dreams. You thought you had forgotten that moment, but then you remember, "Oh yeah, that really did happen." I like taking notes, making videos of friends and I, and taking photos when I start forgetting who I am, because it allows the camera to record whatever is in front of it. I think of these photos as drunk dials, or drunk emails that I wrote to myself. In the morning, you may regret it, but looking back you're pretty sure it's hilarious material at worst. I fear my friends won't want to come over now that I'm posting these photos, but I'm also sure that nobody who cares reads this anyway. I am calling these the BGGC Signature Series. The funnest part about these, is adding your own word bubbles to each photo - like "Sterling Gone Wild" down there.  Enjoy.

adidas - A. Pommier

Adidas is at it again. They have been involved in the arts for a while now, progressing the collaborations between artists, and footwear. Their team is so on point right now, it's retarded. The adidas Values Project was one of the first large scale art colabs of many to come. I am lucky enough to be working for Mean Magazine and get to see all the new stuff that they are throwing into their new issues - including shoes. This month, I was hired by Mean to shoot photos of the new shoe by adidas + Andrew Pommier. They are sick. The combination of vulcanized sole, with Chuck Taylor toe caps, and artist's renderings make this line of shoes hard to put down. When I first saw them, I have to admit, I wasn't too keen, but now after taking these photos, and staring at them, and seeing the intricate detail that went into the designing and assembly of the shoe, I'm stoked on them.

This shoe is designed around the art of A. Pommier. The shoes are completely covered in his drawings. You should check out his myspace page as well - some sick videos on there.

Because they are from space aliens, and not made my human hands, I made them feel at home in the following set of photographs. Hopefully there will be more posts like this on the blog soon. For more information, check out next month's issue of Mean, or go buy these at the adidas Originals store or here. (I don't know the release date, but I'll post it later.)

Please do not abuse these images. Thanks.

I've also just added a photo of the sweater which accompanies the shoes. Done by the same artist, it has very detailed black print of the rendered drawings. They are hard to see from afar, which adds to the unique design.

Special thanks to Sterling Bartlett for the shoes.

PF Flyers - Run Faster & Jump Higher

Remember PF Flyers? Started by BF Goodrich - the tire guy - by canvas footwear in the early 1930's. They patented the super comfy insole under Posture Foundation which became popular as the "PF." In the 1960's, this popular gym shoe was found more on the street as a comfortable alternative to oxfords and loafers.

It was later on that Pro Keds, and Converse All Stars hit the market under the same "performance enhancing" footwear marketed to athletic enthusiasts.

Sterling and I went to the canvas store in Malibu, a store trying to continue the tradition of the PF Flyer with a new release, the Albin - designed to be worn by the leaders of art and rock n roll. Check out this video for more details on the release of this shoe. Here are some fotos to check out while you sit in your chair at work waiting earnestly for escape. Thanks.

Echo Park - Rain

It's been raining for three days straight now, which is a blessing considering that when it rains, the neighbors who live not five feet from my window stop working on the new addition to the garage/house/livingroom/garage. I usually wake up to the sound of nail guns, and the puzzled expressions of old Mexican men/boys looking at me while I slumber. It's weird to know that these people have seen me naked more than girls I've dated, but that's life. I'm pretty well used to it by now, and was pleasantly surprised to find out they don't work on rainy days or sundays. Today was a rainy sunday, so... Wait a second; by the nature of the well-respected double-negative, doesn't that necessitate working? Anyway, everything, including my laundry, my dog, and my neglected skateboard is wet these days, and it's great. Murph got a haircut and a bath, and I went out to scour some photos with the handy use of Jeremy's huge umbrella. Enjoy.

Conehead - Stephen Tamiesie

One of my best friends - Stephen Tamiesie - is a great photographer, and recently took a trip to LA, where we proceeded to illegally park numerous times downtown. In the daytime, there is literally nowhere to park without having to return to your vehicle momentarily out of paranoia. The city makes so much bank off of parking tickets, and it's been one of my downfalls. Anyway, I got my last parking ticket ever last week. It was Jeremy and my resolution to never get another parking ticket. So, back to our trip to downtown. We were shooting random stuff, and Stephen mentioned that he had just been taking tons of shots of cones. Street cones are great. They are triangular, bright, and everywhere.

I can't wait to see the shots he got that day, as he was shooting on a medium format Hasselblad camera, and I was shooting on my digital. All this to say that I was downtown the other day and shot this cone because whenever I see one, I have to shoot it. Just to laugh and show Stevezie. Anyway, it's obviously nothing special, but here it is:

Here are some of the other photos we took the day he was in town:

Bike-By Shooting

Riding my bike with my camera didn't seem like a very good idea, but I just couldn't help myself. Catching a reflection here and there, and people going about their daily business. My bike is a converted 10-speed road bike graciously donated by Mr. Dave Wheaton. He has taken it up to over 50 mph, and I don't doubt it could still pull that easily. I took a ride to the local fixey shop to get myself a bike lock and found some interesting photo opportunities on the way.

Austin - Lost & Found

I was about to throw away an old CF card because it's 16 MB and worthless, and thought, "I should just see if anything is on this..." Sure enough, I see Austin's mug all up in my bidness. This was probably taken in '04 when we were working together at the dojo. I can tell by the desk configuration. Work can get sort of boring and it helps to have someone named Austin sitting next to you to keep you going.

Accidental Firing

Jeremy (my homemate) was trying to find me the other night, and was gonna pick me up. I was flashing the flash on my camera as a homing beacon so that he could find me, and accidentally took this photo when I finally got a little closer... You can kinda see him in there.  I think it's around a 3 second exposure with the flash.

Late Night Foto Hunt

It's raining right now, and I can't wait to get out there and shoot more. It just sucks getting my gear all wet. Here are some that I shot last night. I enjoy shooting for hours at night. It lets me see things that I normally drive by and ignore. Yadda yadda. Enjoy.

Las Vegas Job

Recently, I got a job working in Las Vegas for Michael Mann and Dante Spinotti - two of my favorite film makers - and spent 4 nights shooting from 2 PM to 6 AM. It was my first time in Vegas without being under the legal age, and so I got to spend some quality time in the casinos at 7 AM after getting off work with Jeremy:

I had a great time playing Roulette, and scoring chick-dudes off the strip. Hahahaa, just playing.

The cars on the job would get up to 150 MPH and then we shot a huge crash sequence. It was amazing to see these pro's working. Here's some more fotos:

Working for myself and maintaining creative control over my work is great, but working for famous people has it's upsides for sure.

New Year Classics

The last sunset of 07.  Twas a great year, and im sure you'll agree, bout due for a change.  Ive been needing a reason to stop waking up at noon and eating cookies in my soup.  Time to grow up little Garret.  Its not the 90's anymore.  So here are a few photos from the new year's eve/day.  I decided to "do it real big" this year and throw a party at my place.  Thanks for showing up all you people, and I hope you had a blast.  My neighbor/landlord loves tequila and invited Jeremy and I over for some blackjack drinking games.  Lets just say, the new year luck was all going to the dealer... and I was about to be on the floor.

I like new years because it's the one time when you walk down the street in Los Angeles when everyone is nice to everyone else.  It's all smiles from the neighbors, and people put their worries on hold to have some fun.

In the morning, Sterling came over at 7 AM with cheeses and booze.  Walking down the street the night after a huge world-wide bash is amazing.  There are no sounds, nobody is driving, nobody is awake, and everything is still - despite how trashed it is from the night before.

Sterling and I decided to go skating and make video parts of ourselves even though we suck.  So as we were walking, we found a chair in the middle of the street.  It was so rad.  We rode the bus all day, and at the end of the night, I rode it home with some crappy footage of crappy tricks, and a feeling that it is going to be a great year.
